Impressionistic, ethereal and celebratory, Debussy's attractive Nocturnes are portrayals of the moonlit sea, sky and night time festivities. In the last of the three movements the scoring is extended and enhanced by a wordless female chorus.

Rachel Nicholls has been described by The Times as 'the most thrilling dramatic British Soprano of her generation'. From Tchaikovsky's tragic opera of love and longing she performs the impassioned Letter Scene. And in Strauss' valedictory Four Last Songs she sings his truly sublime farewell to what was the end of a life and a musical era.

Ravel's mesmerising 'apotheosis of the Viennese Waltz' brings this sensational programme to an extraordinary close.
